According to a decision signed by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, the project has an investment capital of approximately VND2.40 trillion (nearly USD96.38 million) which will be funded by the Vietnam Airlines Corporation.

The project includes the construction of a new runway spanning 2,400 metres, capable of serving A320, A321, and similar aircraft; a connecting taxiway to the aircraft parking area and five waiting taxiways, and another aircraft parking area for A320, A321 and equivalent aircraft.

The project also aims to upgrade the passenger terminal to a capacity of 500,000 passengers per year, and is expected to be further expanded to accommodate up to one million passengers annually by 2030.

The current capacity of Ca Mau Airport is 200,000 passengers per year. The airport only operates one flight route connecting Ca Mau and HCM City with a frequency of four flights per week.
