Authorities in the central province of Quang Binh have just safely removed a 350-kilo bomb which was found by a local resident near the Khe Thui Bridge in Minh Hoa District.

Authorities in Quang Binh Province remove a 350-kilo bomb which was found by a local resident near the Khe Thui Bridge in Minh Hoa District on October 3.

The M117 bomb, which is 1.2 metres long and weighs 350 kilos, was said to have been left over from the American War.

After being informed by local people of the finding, Quang Binh authorities sent experts to the site and safely removed it to a suitable area on October 3 to wait for disposal.

About 800,000 tonnes of bombs, mines, and unexploded ordnance (UXO) were left and buried in Vietnam after the war against the US and southern Vietnamese from 1954 to 1975.

All 63 provinces and cities in the country have been contaminated with UXOs, but the clearance has only been carried out in some northern provinces such as Ha Giang and Lang Son and six central provinces including Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Quang Ngai.
