The wushu beauty, Nguyen Mai Phuong, spent a winter day soothing her soul under light showers in the Botanical Gardens, Hanoi.
With a small body frame, she does not look much like an athlete. She has competed in wushu since she was a young girl.
Phuong has attended numerous competitions and won many prizes, including the bronze medal for swordsmanship in the 2008 Olympics.
Her knee was wounded during preparations for the 25th SEA Games in Lao and it has not yet recovered.
“I was probably born for wushu and I've never even thought of giving it up. If I hadn't discovered wushu 14 years ago by accident, I think I would study journalism.” said Phuong.
Phuong is not only interested in martial arts but also keeps a diary about her journeys. Amongst Asian countries, Singapore is her favourite because it's very beautiful and clean.
Currently all of her effort goes into treating her wounded knee so that she can attend ASIAD (The Asian Games) in China at the end of November.
Her latest prize is the gold medal for wushu at the Asian Indoor Games 3 in Hanoi
Her family and boyfriend encourage her to continue wushu
“My boyfriend is also a wushu athlete. We have been in love for 3 years,” said Phuong
Mai Phuong could not attend SEA Game 25 due to a serious wound
