Dantri Newspaper co-operates with local authorities in An Giang to hold a ground-breaking ceremony on October 22 to build new houses for two low-income families in the area.

The houses, which cost over VND500 million that Dantri and donors funded, will benefit three families in Dong Thap and two others in An Giang.

The family of Nguyen Ai Duong, 32, in Dong Thap received VND230 million donated by Dantri readers. Duong is struggling to support his three small, ill children after his wife left them.

Duong said he would use VND150 million to build a 60-square-metre house to replace his current, badly deteriorated home.

"I want to sincerely thank Dantri and all kind donors for your valuable support," he said.

In An Giang Province, Tran Thi Be Son, 70, also received nearly VND97 million from Dantri to build a new house. Despite old age, Son still does odd jobs and earns a modest income to support her disabled son.

Son said that she has never dared to dream about a new house as what she earns is not enough to buy food and medicine for her son.

"This is an enormous and valuable gift that we receive from Dantri," she said. "Thank you so much for your support."

This is the 20th house built by Dantri in the Mekong Delta region.

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has asked organisations and individuals to join forces to build 100 new houses for disadvantaged families nationwide between 2024 and 2025.

As a ministry publication, Dantri Newspaper has begun a campaign to build the houses with financial support from the newspaper's readers and donors. Each family will receive at least VND50 million.

As of October 24, Dantri had constructed 52 houses, 31 of which had been completed.
