SC VivoCity – The first shopping mall in Vietnam to achieve LEED Gold Certification for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (v4.1)
SC VivoCity Shopping Mall – jointly developed by Saigon Co.op Investment Development Joint Stock Company (“SCID”) and Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd (“Mapletree”) – has been officially awarded LEED gold certification by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (v4.1).
This is the first shopping mall in Vietnam to achieve LEED certification in this category.
Unlike the LEED certification for new construction or major renovations (LEED Building Design and Construction (BD+C)), or the LEED certification for complete interior fit-out projects (LEED Interior Design and Construction (ID+C)), which primarily focus on the construction and/or major renovation phases of a building, the LEED certification for existing buildings (LEED Building Operations and Maintenance (O+M)) is an international standard that evaluates and recognizes buildings that excel in improving performance and maintaining sustainable practices throughout the building's operation and maintenance. This includes water efficiency, energy efficiency, waste management, material quality, transportation, and indoor air quality and environment.
Since its establishment in 2015, SC VivoCity Shopping Mall has continuously made improvements, especially in the field of energy conservation. In 2021, SC VivoCity successfully installed a renewable energy system, achieving saving up to 6.8% of the total electricity consumption of the entire mall.

Mr. Do Huu Nhat Quang, Co-founder of Green Building Consultancy Company Limited (Green Viet) emphasized, "We are very pleased that SC VivoCity is the first shopping mall in Vietnam to be awarded LEED Gold certification in the category of Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (v4.1). This sets a new standard for environmental protection in the shopping mall real estate sector and also shows that investors and businesses are increasingly valuing the benefits of green transformation, contributing positively to the sustainable development of Vietnam and the world."
“SC VivoCity Shopping Mall always puts sustainable development as a core value of our long-term development strategy,” shared Mr. Andre Lim, General Director of Vietsin Commercial Complex Development Joint Stock Company (VCCD) and representative of the developer of SC VivoCity Shopping Mall. “Receiving the LEED Gold certification is not only the result of our continuous efforts in optimizing the operation and maintenance of the building, maintaining the efficiency of natural resources, but also marks a major milestone in the journey of pursuing sustainable development values that VCCD and SC VivoCity Shopping Mall always aim for. We are committed to continuing to actively contribute to Vietnam's roadmap in the Green Transformation strategy, realizing the goal of reducing carbon emissions to zero by 2050.”
