Authorities in Vung Tau dismantle two tourism facilities in the Bai Sau Beach on November 18.
The two sites cover over 3.8 hectares on Thuy Van Street, including three-star hotels and related facilities. The land area was among 28 hectares rented out by local authorities to nine local businesses in the tourism industry in 1996.
In 2021, the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provincial People's Committee decided to reclaim the land for a project to renovate Bai Sau Beach. So far, seven out of nine businesses have agreed to remove their properties and return the land for the project.
However, the two remaining investors, Hai Duong International Tourism Company and Vung Tau International Tourism Company, did not agree to return the land, so local authorities had to send a team to dismantle their properties. The site clearance work is expected to last 10 days.
On October 28, 2024, Ba Ria-Vung Tau authorities started a VND1.09-trillion (USD39.52 million) project to renovate Thuy Van Street and Bai Sau Beach. The project is scheduled to be completed within the next six months.
Under the project, various facilities will be built, including a square, parks, outdoor cinemas, restaurants, and drainage systems. In particular, five pedestrian tunnels will be constructed beneath Thuy Van Street to link Bai Sau Beach.

Once completed, Bai Sau Beach will become an open space offering a sea view for residents and tourists.
Hoang Vu Thanh, the provincial people's committee chairman, said the project aims to help Vung Tau become a high-quality and internationally recognised tourist centre.
