According to an official from Uong Bi City, the city has considered two coal mines, +122 and +135, for the tours. Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company has operated these mines since 1964.
Coal mine +122 considered for tourism development
Once implemented, Uong Bi will become the first locality in Quang Ninh to offer coal mine tours.
Earlier, Quang Ninh piloted tours to an open-pit coal mine of Ha Tu Coal Company, but they were later discontinued.
Travel companies also proposed opening tours to coal mines in Quang Ninh, especially open-pit mines in Ha Long and Cam Pha, to diversify tourism products. This is aimed to make Quang Ninh a year-round tourist destination.
Quang Ninh is Vietnam's coal hub, accounting for over 90 percent of the country's total coal reserves. The province also has significant strengths and great potential for developing marine-based economic sectors.
