Quang Nam sees record-breaking tourist surge

The central province of Quang Nam is estimated to welcome over 8 million tourists this year, surpassing the record of 7.8 million set in 2019.

According to Nguyen Thanh Hong, director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the number of tourists to the province this year has increased by 14 percent compared to 2023 and exceeded the annual target by 6 percent.

Of the total, 5.5 million were foreign travelers, with South Korea, Taiwan, Australia, England, France, Malaysia, the US, Germany, China and Spain ranking among the top ten.

Quang Nam has received many international titles and awards in tourism. The provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism was honoured as Asia's Leading Regional Tourist Board by the World Travel Awards.

Hoi An City was recognised as Asia's Leading Cultural City Destination for 2024, while Tra Que vegetable village was honored as one of the Best Tourism Villages of 2024 by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation.

Hong, however, also acknowledged that the local tourism sector continues to face numerous challenges, including economic downturns, climate change, and the development of new products.
