366 athletes from 42 teams across the country are competing at the Young National Athletics Championship, which opened at the My Dinh stadium in Hanoi on August 23.
There will be 40 individual- and eight team-events including 100-metre and 1,000-metre dash, 400-metre hurdles, 4x100 and 4x800 relays, long jump, high jump, and pole vault.
Organisers said the Hanoi team is the leading candidate for the champion title, followed by the Army and Ho Chi Minh City teams.
On the first day, Phan Thi Thach from Binh Dinh won a gold medal in the women’s 5,000-metre event, while the champion title in men’s long jump went to Nguyen Van Thuan from Khanh Hoa. Le Thi Lai from Soc Trang ranked first in the women’s discus throw.
The event is scheduled to finish on August 26.
