The incident happened at 1:30pm at a work site of the Ha Long Coal Company in Cam Pha City. A cable snapped while the four workers were transporting mining tools down a 67 metre pit. Two workers, Tran Van Yeu (40) and Nguyen Van Dong (27) died in the accident.
The other two, Le Hai Ngoc (24) và Dinh Van Trung (27) were seriously injured and were rushed to local hospital.
The province offered VND 6 million (USD269) and the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Corporation offered VND20 million (USD898) for the family of each dead worker.
The Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Corporation is investigating the causes of the accident.
