Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung has assigned the Ministry of Defense to host and cooperate with the Ministries of Transport, Natural Resources and Environment, Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee and other relevant agencies to improve Tan Son Nhat International Airport’s aircraft apron, taxiways and terminals and the capacity of the passenger terminal system.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport is situated on the main air routes with high volume of passengers of the East - West and North - South of the region that is a very convenient location for civil aviation operation, the gateway from Ho Chi Minh City to the other destinations in the world, the convenient and ideal transfer and transit hub in the route network from Europe, South Asia to Southeast Asia, North East, North Asia and Asia Pacific.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport is a civil airport combined with military flight operation, in which the civil area is located in the East and the South, the military area is located in the west and the north of the airport. Tan Son Nhat Int’l Airport is able to accommodate the scheduled flights, unscheduled flights, personal aircrafts, charter flights, commercial flights, technical flights, and serves 24/24h.

The airport received over 22 million passengers in 2014 and the 2015 figure surged 18% to 26 million, including 10 million foreign travelers.
