Taiwan’s live-fire drills on the Ba Binh island, which forms part of Vietnam’s Truong Sa archipelago, seriously encroached upon Vietnam’s sovereignty over the island, said Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Hai Binh.
Mr. Binh made the statement in response to reporters’ query on Vietnam’s reaction to the Taiwan’s move.
The drills also threatened peace, stability and maritime safety and security, causing tensions and complicating the situation in the East Sea, the Spokesman said.
Vietnam resolutely protested against the drills and demanded Taiwan stop repeating similar actions.
Mr. Binh affirmed that Vietnam has full historical evidence and legal foundations proving its sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos.
