Streets in the city, including Le Duan, Tran Dang Ninh and Chu Van Thinh faced severe flooding on the morning of June 7.

Some areas were put around 50 cm underwater, blocking traffic and causing engines to stall for many vehicles. This required local police to send rescue forces to help.

The police had to help three cars that were transporting pupils to a high school entrance exam across flooded areas.

An official from Son La City People’s Committee said that the locality hardly saw such flooding previously. This time, torrential rain and an overwhelmed city drainage system were mainly blamed for the inundation.
Around 20 hectares of crops in the city were also submerged. Local authorities have relocated 13 vulnerable households to a safety.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the northern midland and mountainous areas would experience flash floods and landslides until June 12.
