Sleeper coach catches fire in Dak Lak, all passengers escape safely

A sleeper coach carrying 44 passengers caught fire in Vietnam’s Central Highlands province of Dak Lak on Sunday evening after a front tyre burst, but all on board escaped safely.

The blaze broke out at around 7.50 pm on March 1 on the eastern Buon Ma Thuot bypass, in Ea KNuec Commune.

The coach, driven by a 44-year-old man from Quang Ngai Province, was travelling along the route when the front tyre suddenly exploded and friction with the fuel tank sparked flames.

The driver and an assistant attempted to extinguish the fire with handheld extinguishers but were unsuccessful.

All 44 passengers evacuated the vehicle in time and no injuries were reported. The fire quickly engulfed the coach, causing significant damage.

Firefighters from the provincial police’s fire prevention and rescue unit were dispatched to the scene and brought the blaze under control.

Authorities are assessing the damage and investigating the cause of the incident.
