The new Dantri Bridge was built in Vinh Thanh District's Qui Lan 6 Village with a total length of 24 metres and width of four metres. The VND420-million (USD18,260)-invested project was built with VND300 million donated by Dantri/Dtinews and the rest by local residents.

The new bridge will replace the old one which had become seriously deteriorated.

Attending the opening ceremony of the new bridge, Vice Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, cum Chairman of the city People's Council, Pham Van Hieu, said he was very moved when seeing local people in this poor village now had a new firm bridge for safe travelling.

"The Mekong Delta and Can Tho have many rivers and canals which has posed many difficulties for travelling," the official said. "Soft ground in the area also makes the construction here more costly. We’re very grateful for the valuable help from Dantri/Dtinews and kind donors."


Speaking at the ceremony, Editor-in-Chief of Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper, Pham Tuan Anh, said that he was glad to see the joy on local people's faces when using the new bridge.

"During the past 17 years, Dantri has co-operated with organisations and individuals to carry out lots of social works," he shared. "We've so far supported 70 including 44 schools and 26 bridges in difficult areas nationwide. This is the second Dantri Bridge in Can Tho City and the 11th such work in the Mekong Delta region."

At the ceremony, the Can Tho City Department of Science and Technology presented 20 scholarships worth VND 20 million in total to children from families with difficulties in the area.
