Rare turtle released into sea in Nghe An

A rare turtle weighing 32.5 kilos which was handed over by a local resident has been released into the wild in the central province of Nghe An.

A rare turtle weighing 32.5 kilos which was handed over by a local resident has been released into the wild in the central province of Nghe An.

According to authorities in Quynh Luu District, Nguyen Van Kim from Quynh Giang Commune, purchased the turtle for VND3.3 million (USD143.47) from another local resident.

The turtle weighs 32.5 kilos


Bringing it home, Kim took care of the animal very carefully and then decided to hand it over to the local authorities.

The forest protection board of Quynh Luu-Hoang Mai area transported the turtle to the release site.

The turtle belongs to a species listed in the Vietnam Red Book of Endangered Animals.
