Two sons of a poor woman in the northern province of Hai Duong experienced traffic accidents within a fortnight of each other, leaving them seriously injured.
On August 23, her youngest son Trinh Van An of Do Thi Van in Long Xuyen Commune, Binh Giang District, had his jaw bone broken and suffered brain injuries. After surgery in the Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi, he was moved to Hai Duong General Hospital to save treatment costs.

Her eldest son Trinh Van Nhuong also suffered a traffic accident on September 8. Nhuong is still in critical condition in hospital.
Doctor Tran Dinh Van who treats Nhuong said on September 8 he had brain surgery to remove blood congestion. Since then, the patient has been in the critical care ward, so his treatment costs are very high.
The mother is now totally powerless as she does not know how to borrow more money to save her sons, while the family's limited income only depends on farm work. The VND100 million loan is too big for them, so they have no way of being able to afford treatment for both sons.
