The Fococev Company has been fined for illegally discharging wastewater which caused environmental pollution in Phu Yen Province.

A report on Monday from the committee showed that the company based in Song Hinh District had seriously violated environmental and water resource protection regulations.

The violations were found during a check by Phu Yen Police Department at the company on January 12.

The firm did not follow regulations when operating its wastewater treatment system. They illegally built a small canal that diverted untreated wastewater directly into the Can Spring which flows into the Hinh River. They were discharging over 1,533 cubic metres of untreated toxic wastewater daily into the environment through this.

Police also found during their January 12 investigation that the firm was using 9,540 cubic metres of water per day and night for non-agricultural purposes, 2,840 cubic metres more than allowed. The company failed to provide documents relating to its usage of water resources.

The Phu Yen Cassava Processing Company was fined nearly VND3.40 billion and was instructed to remove all illegal discharge facilities and deal with the pollution within three months.
