
Vietnamese badminton star Vu Thi Trang
The annual event, which will be held from March 21-26 at Hanoi’s Cau Giay Gymnasium, will see competitors from Japan, the UK, the US, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, China and India among others, the organisers said on March 10.
The host Vietnam will have 60 participants including top players Nguyen Tien Minh and Vu Thi Trang who will compete with other regional badminton stars such as Khosit Phetpradab and Pornpawee Chochuwong from Thailand. Some other big delegations include Indonesia with 56 players, Thailand 50 players and China 22.
According to the organiser, the ninth competition this year will have five categories, namely men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles, with total prize of USD20,000 in which the winners of men’s and women’s singles will be awarded USD1,500 each while the winners of men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles will get USD1,580 a couple in prize.
