
HCM City has 183,700 dogs and cats raised by 106 households in 59 among 312 wards and communes.
The stray dog-catching team in Hiep Binh Chanh Ward in Thu Duc City have caught 105 dogs since they began work in the last year. Stray dogs caught by the team will be temporarily held at the ward people's committee for 48 hours. If the owner wishes to reclaim the dog, they must pay a fine.
Up to 19,552 people in Ho Chi Minh City were vaccinated against rabies during the first two months of this year, a slight increase compared to the same period in 2023 which saw 18,810 vaccinations.
Of the total figure, 74.80 percent were attacked by dogs, followed by cats with 20.50 percent and the remainder by other animals.
Between January and February, HCM City hospitals witnessed seven deaths from to rabies who were patients brought from other localities.
