More bus routes proposed for HCM City

The HCM City Department of Transport has proposed opening 12 more bus routes.

The HCM City Department of Transport has proposed opening 12 more bus routes.

Under the proposal sent to the municipal people’s committee, the routes consist of eight to connect inner-city areas and the four others to link to the three neighbouring provinces of Tien Giang, Dong Nai and Tay Ninh.

Among the inner-city routes, four will use minibuses for the Binh An Waterbus Station-Saigon Bus Station, Binh An Waterbus Station-Lien Phuong Road, Phong Phu Residential Area-District 7 People’s Committee, T30 Residential Area-Marketing University routes.


Four other routes which will use high-quality buses run from An Lac to Rach Chiec, An Lac to Ben Thanh, Cho Lon to Rach Chiec and Ben Thanh to Rach Chiec. Th routes run along Vo Van Kiet and Mai Chi Tho avenues.

Meanwhile, four interprovincial routes will run between An Suong Bus Station and Dong Nai’s Bien Hoa Bus Station, Tan Phu and Tay Ninh bus stations, Tan Phu and Tien Giang bus stations, and Tan Phu and Bien Hoa bus stations.

HCM City currently has 128 bus routes, including 91 that are subsidised. Among those, 101 run within the city, while 27 connect neighbouring cities and provinces.

HCM City’s bus passenger numbers reached only 53 million, down 57 percent on-year last year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, HCM City has set a target to raise the bus passenger numbers to 232 million.
