The reality show is open to anyone, regardless of occupation, age, or gender. The only prerequisite is the dream of a career as a professional chef.

In order to become the series’ only winner, participants will need to advance through many closely fought competitions, impressing judges with their dishes every week.

Launched as a cooking programme in the UK in 1990, MasterChef is now one of the most popular shows worldwide, enjoying extremely high ratings everywhere but particularly in Australia and the US.

It has been produced in 35 countries and broadcast in 200 nations around the globe.

VTV representative Lai Van Sam said he and his production group are excited to bring MasterChef to local viewers.

He expressed his confidence in the programme’s imminent success, saying that culinary art remains one of the most important and universal parts of human life.

He also noted the special attention the franchise has attracted following the unexpected triumph of Christine Ha, a blind overseas Vietnamese from Houston, in its US iteration.

The Vietnamese show’s judges will be well-known Australian-Vietnamese chef Luke Nguyen and businessman Hoang Khai.

Nguyen, owner of restaurants in Australia and elsewhere, is also the author of best-selling cookbooks and has appeared on a wide variety of culinary shows like Food Safari, Heat in the Kitchen, and MasterChef Australia.

He is the creator and MC of Luke Nguyen’s Vietnam, a programme that introduces international viewers to some of Vietnam’s special dishes.

His co-judge Khai’s knowledge of Vietnamese food is also considerable. Khai will use his experience to help analyse the contestants’ dishes.
