Quang Nam provincial officials have confirmed that the dam of the Song Bung 2 Hydropower Plant in the province burst, sweeping away two workers.
According to the province's People's Committee Vice Chairman Nguyen Khanh Toan, the dam in Nam Giang District which holds 98 million of cubic metres suddenly burst, leaving two workers from the Song Bung 2 Hydropower Plant missing.

Plant vehicles were also swept away, including four trucks, two cars and a crane. Search and rescue forces have been sent to look for the missing workers following the incident.
Provincial authorities are still checking to define where any more people may be missing from the incident as besides the workers and local residents, many people from other localities visit the area near the hydropower plant to mine for gold.
Song Bung 2’s dam recently showed signs of leaks and was affected by heavy rains from Storm RAI, which are believed to have finally caused the dam to break.
Luckily, the water from broken dam flowed into the dam of the nearby Song Bung 4 Hydropower Plant, avoiding flooding the area.
The plant began construction in 2012 and was the fourth largest hydroelectric plant in Quang Nam, with total capacity of 100MW. It was expected to start power transmission later this year.
