Hanoi authorities have given the nod to a proposal of placing an underground metro station near Hoan Kiem Lake.

The metro line 2 station will be built behind Ba Kieu Temple opposite Ngoc Son Temple.
The Hanoi People's Committee has instructed the municipal Urban Railway Management Board to work with Hanoi Electricity Corporation on the construction.
Local authorities will also discuss with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, related agencies, experts and scientists on the work to have the least impact on the surrounding areas.
The recommendation by Hanoi's Department of Planning and Architecture in 2013 to build the station underground near Hoan Kiem Lake faced strong opposition from some people who claimed that this would affect the beauty of the location.
The 11.5km metro line 2 will also have 8.5km of underground sections. The line will run below Hang Giay, Hang Duong, Hang Ngang and Hang Dao streets and Hoan Kiem underground.
