Inspectors of the Hanoi Construction Department started a crackdown on pavement encroachment in many local areas on March 10.

The department inspectors even used tools like levers and hammers to destroy concrete parts built illegally on pavements of many streets, including on Tay Son Street in Dong Da District.

However, at some streets like Tran Dien and Tran Nguyen Dan, local authorities just reminded violators of dismantling illegal constructions themselves. They were also requested to sign in a paper which confirmed their violations. The authorities pledged to take further action if nothing changes.

According to chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, this will be a new and comprehensive fight against pervasive pavement encroachment in the city with more drastic measures after many failed previous campaigns.

Any individual or organisation violating regulations would be strictly punished, Chung noted.
