Hanoi’s authorities claim there was a surge in the number of visitors and increased revenues during the national holiday period.

Hanoi opens pedestrian street
From September 2 to 4, Hanoi received 207,236 visitors, an increase of 22% on last year. The number of both international tourists increased by 11% to 22,236 and the number of domestic tourists also increased by 23% to 185,000.
Local businesses earned around VND526bn (USD22.72m) through the holiday.
Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Do Dinh Hong said international and domestic tourists alike welcomed the opening of pedestrian streets and the city had seen more visitors than previous National Day. He also admitted that there were some shortcomings such as litter and annoying street vendors.
"We shouldn't be perfectionists on the first days. The shortcomings have been reported and the authorities will deal with them to make the street more complete," he said.
