Hanoi Railway Transport Corporation has stopped the operation of a high-quality railway route linking Hanoi and the northern mountainous province of Lang Son due to a lack of passengers.

The Hanoi-Dong Dang railway route stopped due to lack of passengers
The route was launched in May last year, using modern South Korean-produced trains.
The service only offered four trains every day between Hanoi and Dong Dang. The service took 3 hours and 35 minutes, a remarkable 3 hours less than the previous timetable. The highest fares were VND105,000 (USD4.80).
However, a Hanoi Railway Transport Corporation representative admitted that since it started running, only a few passengers had used the route. The maintenance fees for the trains has been high, resulting in big losses for the company.
