Hanoi flyover opened to traffic

The flyover at the O Dong Mac-Nguyen Khoai crossroad in Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem District was opened to traffic this morning after seven months of construction.

The flyover at the O Dong Mac-Nguyen Khoai crossroad in Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem District was opened to traffic this morning after seven months of construction.

The 232m long, 12m wide flyover cost VND166 billion (USD7.4 million).

The flyover is one of eight urgent projects which have been carried out to ease traffic congestion in the capital.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Duc Chung, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee said O Dong Mac-Nguyen Khoai was one of the worst traffic spots in Hanoi, so the flyover was expected to help reduce the problem.

The overpass links Belt Road 1 and Dai Co Viet Street.

Earlier this year, Hanoi decided to spend VND2.2 trillion (USD100 million) to reduce traffic congestion in local hot spots during the 2016-2020 period. To realise the target, the city plans to upgrade 50 roads and intersections and install new traffic lights at 56 junctions.
