Hanoi cancels firework plans to aid in flood relief

Focus is changing from celebrations to flood relief in Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi.

A deadly flood is devastating the central region of Vietnam.

The Hanoi standing committee of the Communist Party announced that they will stop organising firework displays in 29 locations on the evening of October 10 and donate the money for flood-ravaged people in the central region.

According to the chief of Hanoi’s committee of the Party, Dao Duc Toan, they, together with other departments and offices, have been calling on their staff and people in the city to donate money to the flood fund which will be delivered to flood-ravaged people in the central region.

“People in the central region are still struggling to overcome the losses and damages caused by the flood,” Toan said. “To have more funds for relief efforts, the decision was made to stop firework displays at 29 locations. This money will be used to help victims instead.”

As such, there will be no fireworks at the various districts and towns except for the show organised for the gala night at My Dinh National Stadium.
