Known commonly as wild Himalayan cherry trees, the trees in Dalat normally shed all their leaves in winter, then hibernate for about two weeks before blooming in early spring for around one to two months.
According to local people, the cherry trees have beautiful blossoms this year thanks to the favourable weather.
Many streets in the city have been covered with pink blossoms. Streets including Tran Hung Dao, Tran Quoc Toan, Tran Nhan Tong, and Dinh Tien Hoang boast the most trees. The hills in Lac Duong District also feature many old trees which still offer lots of flowers.
The cherry flower season is usually a peak tourism time in Dalat. Many hotels and homestay facilities in the area have reported full bookings for the season.
Nguyen Duy Trung, owner of a homestay facility in Dalat City revealed that their 15 rooms have been fully booked during the Tet Festival between February 8-14.
A newly released survey by the Booking.com site also showed that hotels in Dalat received the largest number of bookings in the country for the Tet Lunar New Year Holiday.
A local photographer, Phan Quang, said that he has also received lots of bookings for photo shoots.
"Many domestic visitors, especially young people, often book photo services when visiting Dalat," Quang said. "And the cherry blossoms are among the most popular requests for photos. Weekends are our busiest time.”
It is expected that the blossoming season will last through the Tet Lunar New Year Holiday in Dalat, and help the city receive more visitors.
