There has recently been a rising number of conflicts between boat owners over fishing areas in the southernmost province, leading to many fishing boats being attacked. Many boats have recently been set on fire and sunk in the incidents. A report by local authorities said that 13 such attacks had occurred between November 8, 2023 and January 2, 2024. Many fishermen have voiced concerns and worries about the situation.

In a directive sent out on Tuesday, the official asked the local transport department and border gate steering committee to intensify checks and prevent boats that are operating illegally in local waters.

Concerned agencies have been asked to send a report on the situation and their solutions by the end of January.
