Colonel Nguyen Tien Nam, deputy director of Ha Tinh police department said they had arrested and prosecuted Nguyen Van Hoa, 22, on April 6. According to the investigators, Hoa took advantage of the Formosa pollution disaster to work with foreign-based organisations to incite violence, protests and spread false information against the state.

Hoa told the police that he had edited and published many anti-state articles on various Facebook accounts since 2014. He contacted with anti-state organisations, received funds and uploaded video clips to encourage people to participate in violent protest and destroy the assets of Formosa Company. He also live streamed the Formosa protests in order to incite more protests.

Police reports claim Hoa had exaggerated the floods in Ha Tinh, Nghe An and Quang Binh to cause violence. He also signed contract with some foreign websites to publish 16 articles with similar contents for USD1,500 per month.

Hoa admitted to the police that he was wrong.

According to the police, Hoa joined the Viet Tan party which has been banned in Vietnam and has been labelled as a terrorist organisation.
