Le Van Tho Primary School in District 12 has the largest number of students in the city with over 4,500 students. The facility had been disinfected before the reopening day. A teacher, Nguyen Thuy Kieu, said that classes would be divided into different shifts to ensure proper social distancing.

The school headmaster, Huynh Thi Tuyet Hoa, said that they had organised training for teachers and staff members as well as informed parents and students well about new activities and regulations to ensure proper Covid-19 prevention.

A mother, Tran Thi Huong Giang in District 11 said that she was very happy that her four-year-old daughter could return to school again.

"I really wait for this day when I can send my daughter to school to return to work like before," she said. "My child is also very eager to see her friends."

In January, students from the 7th to 12th grades in the southern hub also returned to on-site classes.

The municipal people’s committee announced on February 5 that HCM City has been classified as a green zone - the lowest of the four-level pandemic scale - for five consecutive weeks.
