On Friday, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung led a delegation to visit Luc Yen District, one of the localities hardest hit by Typhoon Yagi and subsequent flooding and landslides. The delegation saw the participation of Silvia Danailov, Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Vietnam and representatives from the MoLISA’s different agencies and units as well as donors.

Ta Van Long, the provincial Deputy Secretary of Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council, along with leaders from the province’s various departments and agencies welcomed the delegation and took them through a tour to At Thuong Village.

At Thuong Village faced a landslide on September 10, leaving nine people from three households dead.

Minister Dao Ngoc Dung visited these three households and expressed his deepest condolences to their profound loss. He granted VND10 million (USD408.16) to each family.

On this occasion, Minister Dung presented financial donations to help rebuild 22 completely-destroyed houses in Yen Bai Province, including 10 in Luc Yen District. The donations came from the ministry’s agencies and readers of Dantri/DTiNews Newspaper.

UNICEF in Vietnam donated 3,700 emergency child protection kits and school supplies to children in Luc Yen worth a total of VND1.78 billion.

Many donors have also jointly donated a total of hundreds of millions of VND to people in Yen Bai.

According to the minister, in the short term, Yen Bai authorities need to arrange land for the resettlement and assist the affected residents in constructing their new homes.

Dung also stressed the need to generate jobs, provide healthcare for people and ensure education for children after the storm. Particularly, it is essential to restore the transportation system as soon as possible.

“We cannot feel secure while many people have no house to live in. When I visited families who lost their loved ones, they even lacked a place to set up an altar; it is truly heartbreaking," the minister said.
