A gigantic amount of waste has covered Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh following Typhoon Yagi.

Quang Ninh is among the localities hardest hit by Typhoon Yagi.

The storm swept away tens of thousands of tonnes of oysters, affecting hundreds of households.

It is easy to see foam floats, bamboo rafts, wood and household waste floating on the bay.

Many residents collected items that can still be used from their rafts.

Piles of rubbish are drifting into the core area of Ha Long Bay, threatening the bay.

On September 15, the Ha Long Bay Management Board launched a three-day cleanup campaign, attracting the participation of roughly 200 personnel from different organisations.

Ha Long Bay has been reopened to visitors since September 13. Foreign tourists previously complained that foam buoys from aquaculture farms drifting on Ha Long Bay were polluting the environment.
