At least 141 people died, and 59 remained missing due to Typhoon Yagi and its subsequent flash floods, which have ravaged many localities in northern Vietnam, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Flash floods hit Phuc Khanh commune in Lao Cai Province, burying an entire village with 37 households and 158 people on September 10.

The ministry said in its latest report, released at 5 am on September 11 that natural disasters had injured more than 800 people.

The mountainous province of Lao Cai was hardest hit, with 45 fatalities and 21 missing, the report said. Yen Bai reported 37 deaths and three missing, while Cao Bang had 29 deaths and 23 missing.

Most of the fatalities were caused by landslides and flash floods, and the figure is expected to rise in the coming days as heavy rain continues and mountainous localities face a high risk of landslides and flash floods.
