Some localities, including Mong Cai City, Hai Ha, Binh Lieu, and Ba Che districts, have already had power restored, and it is expected that 100 percent of Quang Ninh residents will get power access again by September 20.

According to a report released on September 16 by Vietnam Electricity, stable power has been supplied to over 5.98 million customers of the approximately 6.1 million affected by the storm and floods in the northern region.

However, more than 100,000 customers in the affected localities remain without power.

Typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm to hit Vietnam in 70 years, caused devastating consequences in 26 northern provinces. According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, these provinces account for over 41 percent of the country's GDP and 40 percent of the population.

The country's GDP growth in the third quarter may decrease by 0.35 percent and by 0.22 percent in the fourth quarter. For the entire year, GDP could decline by 0.15 percent compared to the earlier growth scenario of 6.8-7 percent.

The GRDP growth rate in 2024 for worst-hit localities such as Haiphong, Quang Ninh, Thai Nguyen, and Lao Cai is estimated to decrease by over 0.5 percent.

The typhoon's preliminary total damage is around VND40 trillion (USD1.64 billion).
