Vietnam confirms over 3,000 more Covid-19 infections on Thursday

Vietnam confirmed additional 3,092 Covid-19 infections on Thursday and 719 more patients recovered from the disease the same day, according to a report from the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, 3,088 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 42 localities including HCM City (1,162), Binh Duong (501), Dong Nai (486), Ha Giang (152), An Giang (121), Dak Lak (113), and Dong Thap (87). There were three imported patients confirmed today.

The new infections showed a decrease of 370 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 1,718 infections found in the community.

As of Thursday evening, 849,197 infections have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (414,744), Binh Duong (223,959), Dong Nai (57,122), Long An (33,567), and Tien Giang (14,774). The outbreak has so far spread to 62 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 853,842. The country now stands 41st among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On October 14, an additional 719 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 788,005.

On Thursday evening, a further 81 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 20,950. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (61), Binh Duong (10), Long An (3), Dong Thap (1), An Giang (1), Khanh Hoa (1), Dak Lak (1), Bac Lieu (1), Kien Giang (1), and Soc Trang (1).

The country has so far conducted over 57.45 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 16.80 million people having received two doses.
