Ly Nha Ky’s announcement that she had graduated from Germany’s Real University had met widespread disbelief as many Vietnamese pointed out that no such academic institution existed in Germany. While some claimed the actress must have been referring to a Realschule or vocational training school, not a university.

Ky told DTiNews that, “This is all just a misunderstanding, it’s because students who went to my university don’t use its official name. I will clarify this.” However, due to the strong public pressure, she decided to respond to her critics.

“I went to Alexander Wiegand University which has a slogan “Real people, real work and real action,” therefore the students often call the university “Real”. The word “Real” is the combination of “er” and “al” in the name Alexander as a play on words. The word “Real” matches the slogan,” she explained.

Ky added that her university degree has been checked and certified by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the ministry will officially confirm her degree at the press conference on October 7.

However the actress has also had to fight accusations that she’s not suitable to represent Vietnam following the publishing of ‘hot’ video clips and criticism of a skimpy dress that revealed some cleavage in a television film. Ky however has remained confident about fulfilling her task as tourism ambassador.

“With just a month left for the Ha Long Bay campaign to be recognised as a new natural wonder of the world, I’ll try my best,” she said, sharing that she had called on artists, entrepreneurs as well as a number of foreign politicians to vote for the bay.

Born in the coastal city of Vung Tau, Ky moved to Germany to study when she was 16. At 24, Ky returned to Vietnam and began her acting career. She is known for several TV series and movies.

The 29-year old actress was appointed as Vietnam tourism ambassador by the Department of International Co-operation under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and started the work in September this year.
