The body of a 3-metre whale is found on a Danang beach late on October 29.
A whale about 3 metres long washed up on Nguyen Tat Thanh Beach in Danang City at around 9.30 pm on October 29. Local residents burned incense for the animal, known in coastal tradition as “ca ong”, while border guards cordoned off the site pending burial in line with local customs once weather conditions improve.
The incident comes as days of heavy rainfall have caused major flooding across central Vietnam. Water levels on the Vu Gia and Thu Bon rivers in Danang have surpassed historic records, inundating multiple areas.
At 7 am on October 30, the The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that the Thu Bon River reached 3.32m, exceeding the previous peak recorded in 1964.
Water levels upstream and mid-stream on the Vu Gia-Thu Bon system is slowly receding.
