US naval ships dock in Danang for four day visit

Two US naval ships carrying more than 2,000 officers and sailors arrived at Danang’s Tien Sa Port on December 8 for a four day friendly visit marking 30 years of Vietnam US diplomatic ties.

Two US Navy vessels, the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli and the guided missile cruiser USS Robert Smalls, carrying more than 2,000 officers and sailors under the command of Rear Admiral Thomas Shultz, Commander of US Expeditionary Strike Group 7, arrived at Danang’s Tien Sa Port on December 8 for a four day friendly visit.

The welcome ceremony in the central city was attended by representatives from the municipal Department of Foreign Affairs, Military Command, Border Guard Command, Naval Region 3 Command and other agencies.

Marking the 30th anniversary of Vietnam US diplomatic ties, the visit aims to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2023. With strong potential in tourism, culture and economic development, together with its well known hospitality, Danang is positioned to serve as a bridge for defence and security cooperation, cultural and sports exchanges and naval professional engagement.

During the stay, the guests are scheduled to pay courtesy calls to leaders of the municipal People’s Committee, Military Region 5 and Naval Region 3. They will also join professional exchanges and sports activities with Vietnamese counterparts, meet children at the Village of Hope and students at the University of Foreign Language Studies, University of Danang, and take part in cultural and sightseeing activities.
