A crash involving a tractor and a train in Binh Thuan Province this morning (March 2) closed the north-south railway, causing hours-long delays on the key rail link.
Tractor destroyed
The train, which left HCM City bound for Ham Tan District, was in a collision with a tractor at a marked railway crossing at 9:45am. The tractor was destroyed, scattering debris along the rail line. The driver escaped serious injury, though his assistant was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Accident scene
Due to damage to the locomotive, the train was unable to move and the Ham Tan District section was blocked until 12.15pm. The accident also knocked out signalling equipment serving stations at Song Phan Station.
Police in Binh Thuan Province are investigating the cause of the accident.
