A farmer in Son Dong Commune, Bac Ninh Province, discovered an unusual object in his paddy field and alerted the authorities, who later identified it as an unexploded bomb from the war.

At about 10.00 am on November 12, Vi Van Tuyen was working his field when he spotted what he suspected was a leftover wartime bomb and immediately reported it to local officials.

After receiving the report, officers from the Bac Ninh Provincial Military Command inspected the site and confirmed the object was an M117 demolition bomb manufactured in the United States, measuring 1.2 metres in length, 41 centimetres in diameter and weighing about 350 kilograms.

Expanding their search in the surrounding area, the team found two more intact M117 bombs of the same type, buried about two metres underground. All three bombs were described as still in good condition, with no visible deformation.

Engineering units have cordoned off the site and put safety measures in place around the area.

According to the plan, the Bac Ninh Provincial Military Command will move the three bombs and carry out controlled detonations on November 16.
