As of 4 pm on March 22, the police had dealt with a total of 5,140 cases in which drivers were found driving under influence of alcohol and drug. 5,089 drivers were drunk driving and 51 people were drug-impaired driving. The police collected VND17.7bn from fines suspended 2,997 driving licenses and seized 5,140 vehicles.
Raising public awareness programme has also been carried out. From now until the end of 2021, the police will tighten monitoring about driving under influences and other violations such as overloading buses.
The dragnet is a part of the plan to crack down on alcohol and drugs when driving was raised by the Ministry of Public Security with Decree 100 issued on December 31, 2019, about administrative fines in road and railway traffics and prime ministerial directive about the implementation of the law on prevention and control of alcohol and beer harms.
The plan will be carried out from March 15 to December 31.
