Police in the southern province of Kien Giang have detained five men linked to up to 40 theft cases at tourist sites, hotels, and luxury villas in Phu Quoc City, with total losses exceeding VND 1.5 billion (USD 57,600).
According to Lieutenant Colonel Truong Sa My, Deputy Head of the Kien Giang Criminal Police Division, recent thefts at high-end resorts in Phu Quoc City have become increasingly complex.
Within 15 days of launching the investigation, the division arrested five suspects. The stolen items mainly included cash, jewellery, luxury watches, cameras, mobile phones, tablets, and other valuables from domestic and foreign tourists.
Two suspects, Ta Quoc Si, 22, from Ca Mau Province, and Nguyen Ngoc Phi, 24, from Phu Quoc City, were involved in 29 thefts, including four targeting safes at luxury resorts. They used makeshift flotation devices to approach seaside villas at night and stole valuables from both domestic and foreign tourists.
Meanwhile, three suspects, Nguyen Tuan Anh, 33; Nguyen Thanh Kha, 24; and Le Van Nho, 41, were also arrested as part of the ring.
