Tran Dac Phu, Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine, said they had been informed by Taiwanese agency that a 63-year-old man was diagnosed with Zika after attending his son's wedding in Vietnam.
He was in the southern Vietnamese province of Tra Vinh from August 28 to September 4 and returned to Taiwan after his son's wedding.
On September 6, he got a fever, headache and swollen glands on his body so he was admitted to hospital two days later. His urine and blood samples tested positive for the Zika virus.
His daughter-in-law in Vietnam said he had stayed at the Duy Tung Hotel in Duyen Hai Commune during the visit.
The Department of Preventive Medicine, under the Ministry of Health, asked Tra Vinh Province Department of Health was quick to investigate the area where the man stayed to determine the source of the infection and take preventative measures.
