A 5.3 magnitude earthquake occurred in Son La on July 27
Also in this location, on July 27, a 5.3 magnitude, 14 km depth earthquake occurred. People in high-rise buildings in Hanoi could also felt the quake.
In the following days, the authorities have recorded several aftershocks of different magnitudes in Moc Chau District. The Earth Physics Institute is still monitoring the earthquake and its aftershocks.
According to Anh, the earthquake was caused by the fault by the Da River and showed strong geological activities. The 5.3 magnitude earthquake in Son La is the strongest earthquake detected since the start of 2020.
"Earthquake vibrations can spread far to Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, Phu Tho and Hoa Binh provinces. People in high-rise buildings can clearly feel the quake," Anh said.
Anh confirmed that it's common to have aftershocks and the following aftershocks will get smaller.
