At around 1:30 pm on February 28, captain of Egypt-flagged ship Leonidas called the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre for urgent help when Filipino crew member Guerrero Rosmeni Nedia faced a myocardial infarction. At that time, the ship was on the way from Singapore to China, around 45 nautical miles from Tri Ton Island in the Paracel Islands.

After receiving the news, the centre has instructed the captain on first aid by radio then sent ship SAR 412 with a medical team for the rescue.

The patient was transported to Hoan My Danang Hospital for the treatment at 11.30pm the same day. He has now escaped critical condition.
