Seminar to develop industrial, export-processing and economic zones

A seminar on mechanisms and policies to develop national industrial, export-processing, and economic zones was held on November 23 in Hanoi.

A seminar on mechanisms and policies to develop national industrial, export-processing, and economic zones was held on November 23 in Hanoi by the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

As of September 2010, there were 253 industrial, export-processing and economic zones across the country. They have attracted 8,000 foreign and domestic investment projects that provide jobs for 1,5 million workers and earn US$20 - 25 billion, accounting for almost 18 percent of national gross domestic product (GDP).

Many delegates said the Government Decree 29, which regulates industrial, export-processing and economic zones, is in alignment with the demand for building and development in the sector.

However, localities still have difficulty implementing the Decree due to decentralized administration and lack of coordination between departments and branches.

Some of those attending the seminar suggested that, in the future, ministries and related agencies should tighten management and policies to develop industrial, export-processing and economic zones more effectively.
