The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) proposed to the Ministry of Transport to review and ask the Ministry of Defence to create a reservoir on its land which currently is used for Chao Lua sport ground.

According to the CAAV, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and other agencies already agreed. The city authorities will start dredging and expanding the drainage system around the airport soon.

They also approved the plan and will carry out more research to build the reservoir on the land managed by the Vietnam People's Air Force.

The reservoir will mitigate floods at aircraft parking area when the A41 Canal overflows during heavy rain.

The reservoir is estimated to cover 1.2 hectares and is five to seven metres deep to deal with floods at the 20-hectare parking lot.

An official document was submitted to the Vietnam People's Air Force to ask for their agreement on October 3. The Ministry of Transport will also work with the Ministry of Defence to have the plan approved.
